This is antique XVIII Century Russian quadripartite icon of Mother of God. This icon was hand painted egg tempera on gesso and gold leaf on thick 1.25'' board. The icon is in very good antique condition; it has some small damage on the corners. The pictures are the part of the description (see pictures). The icon has 2 parallel wedges on the back to prevent wood from being warped. The wedges are in good condition. The icon has a very interesting subject. The icon has 4 parts. Each one is the different icon representing Mother of God: upper left corner ''Quench my sorrow''; upper right corner ''Soothe the Disease''; lower left corner ''Joy to all who Mourn'' and lower right corner ''The Healer Icon''. The writings in Old Russian Language have names of each icon. On the top of the icon there is image of Lord, in the middle The Crucifixion. On the sides of the icon there are images of Holly Martyrs Mavra and Leontius. It is very intricate and good quality artwork on this large icon. Size of the icon is 14.25 x 12.25''.
