This nice small Russian lacquer box/icon ''Our Lady of Tenderness'' was created by great Russian artist Serov from Palekh in 2002 (see picture). The box is nicely intricately hand painted and signed by the artist. Inside the box/icon you can see written in Russian language: subject of the painting, name of the art school and the signature of the artist (see detail). The box represents famous Russian icon Our Lady of Tenderness. Size of the box is 1.9 x 1.5 x 1 inches. Great for the collection. Russian lacquer boxes are well known all over the world. There are four villages located not far from Moscow, which create Russian lacquer miniatures. The schools of this art (named by villages) are PALEKH, MSTERA, KHOLYI, and FEDOSKINO. All artists make own brushes from squirrel hair and often paint their detailed designs with one hairbrush under magnifying glass. Each box requires incredible amount of work.
