This is a very nice nesting doll 5-pieces set made in Moscow, Russia in 2001. The doll is beautifully hand painted all around by Russian artist Shorokhova in 2001; XIX Century peasant family tea drinking scenes are depicted on these dolls. Size 8'', set of 5 dolls. Russian Island is selling ONLY Russian made dolls!!! No cheap copies, all the dolls are authentic!!! In Russia making wooden objects which fit each inside other has many Centuries tradition. Gradually these figurines became to be carved in the shape of dolls. These dolls were made and painted by Russian craftsmen. This fabulous Russian doll was given the name MATRIOSHKA [matryoshka, matreshka] which originated from root of the word maternity. It became a symbol of FERTILITY and PERPETUATION. It is a good luck present for a very long time. Excellent vintage condition but it might have very small imperfections (see picture). Please look carefully at the pictures, as they are parts of the description. Any defects not mentioned but visible in the pictures will be considered as described!
