This is a traditional Russian nesting doll 5-pieces set made in Belarus in 1990s. The doll is handmade out of rare hardwood - hornbeam hand painted in Brest City, Belarus by talented Belarusian artist. The dolls have floral design with intricately painted flowers. Size 6.25'', set of 5 dolls. Russian Island is selling ONLY handmade and hand painted dolls!!! No cheap copies, all the dolls are authentic!!! In Russia making wooden objects which fit each inside other has many Centuries tradition. Gradually these figurines became to be carved in the shape of dolls. These dolls were made and painted by Russian craftsmen. This fabulous Russian doll was given the name MATRIOSHKA [matryoshka, matreshka] which originated from root of the word maternity. It became a symbol of FERTILITY and PERPETUATION. It is a good luck present for a very long time. Excellent vintage condition but it might have very small imperfections (see picture). Please look carefully at the pictures, as they are parts of the description. The nesting doll is handmade and because of that it might have slight difference in details.
