This is a very traditional nesting doll 10-pieces set made in Russia in 1990s. The doll is intricately hand painted all around in Sergiev Posad, Russia and signed by Russian artist Pantyukhova. The subject of paintings is famous Russian Troika in the winter scenes. Size 9.5'', set of 10 dolls. Russian Island is selling ONLY Russian made dolls!!! No cheap copies, all the dolls are authentic!!! In Russia making wooden objects which fit each inside other has many Centuries tradition. Gradually these figurines became to be carved in the shape of dolls. These dolls were made and painted by Russian craftsmen. This fabulous Russian doll was given the name MATRIOSHKA [matryoshka, matreshka] which originated from root of the word maternity. It became a symbol of FERTILITY and PERPETUATION. It is a good luck present for a very long time. Excellent vintage condition but it might have very small imperfections (see picture).
