This is a unique art book of famous Russian sculptor Erzia. Russian sculptor Stepan Nefedov (1876-1959) took as his pseudonym the name of one of the small nationalities of Mordva (the place where he was born) - Erzia. Erzia graduated from the Moscow Art School, his teachers were the famous artists Ivanov, Serov, Korovin, and others. He also studied in Italy, had the exhibit of his works in Milan, which was a great success. After the October Revolution the sculptor lived in the Ural mountains region, was the organizer of the Sculptor Academy in Ekaterinburg (later Sverdlovsk ). He made some sculptures of Lenin (included in the book). In 1927 Erzia had a very successful exhibit in Argentina. The Sculptor loved the country; he discovered interesting types of wood over there and started to create his art works using the wood. In 1950 he returned back to the USSR with a great collection of his works. The book was published in Saransk by Mordva Publishers in 1989, in USSR. Hard cover, 240 pages, has sculptor's biography, written in Russian and in English. The book contains about 190 illustrations of his art works. Size: 9,5 x 13 inches. It was printed on very nice heavy paper. Great for collectors. The book is in excellent vintage condition. Very interesting and informative. You buy what you see on the pictures.
